When I connect my phone to pc i was able to transfer photos and files to pc and from pc to mobile. Below are the steps Tried.
Restarting pc2. Restarting mobile3. Trying on a different usb cable4. Trying different computer5. On Phone Developer option was enabled. MTP option was Enabled6. Tried factory reset of phone.
Tried hard reset8. Updated drivers on pc. Tried installing MI PC scuit on pc. Any suggestions are welcome. I could not find any solution that works online. Solved the issue using the below method that I found on XDA forum. Now it is working as it should have. MI shouldn't provide such faulty Global Stable updates. Hope it gets solved in further updates. Same issue here after update to 9. I fix it with usb debugging, go to about phone, tap several times on miui version, after u became developer mode, go to additional settings, tap on usb debugging, and then find default usb, choose usb tethering, done.

The expensive cord obviously isnt made to do anything but charge, and the cheap factory cord was simply defective. Try a brand new cord before you tear your hair out. Its likely just that. My defective cord was only 1 day old! It was my usb cable which was causing the problem, I changed my USB it started enabling and disabling the option seamlessly.

Connect the device with usb, when asked choose "mtp" then the usb thethring option will be available. Tried different cables. One of the cables worked. The greyed out "USB Tethering" was enabled. I turned it on and voila.
This turned out to be a hardware issue. Tried a couple of cables, but they were all the same. After removing the phone from its case and blowing in the connector and trying again it showed up.
Presumably the charging pins were OK but there was some crud on the data pins or maybe the case was not letting the plug go all the way in. Sign up to join this community.

In the settings of the app, there is an option to remove photos after they are backed up to the cloud. You can do this while on vacation also to keep taking photos but removing them from your storage.
